The new year at Farmers' Markets

Thursday 14 January 2010

We will be making our first apperances at Farmers' Markets in london this weekend ( see events for locations ). At the stalls this weekend you can find a small amount Isle of Wight grown loose Campari Tomatoes.
Theses tomatoes have been grown in our glasshouses on the island, where the environment is maintaned by our on-site, Combined Heat and Power plant (CHP). The plant generates electricity and the waste heat and co2 are then used to create the ideal growing conditions for tomatoes. This is a very green process, located on site so there is no need to transport power from the mainland; excess power is then sold back to the national grid. Artifical light is also then used to mimic the extra light hours of a spring day. The carbon footprint of these tomatoes is less than importing tomatoes from abroad as the only transportation of the tomatoes takes place on the short trip from the Island to London direct to the farmers markets.
Also on the stalls this weekend you will find our full range of our own grown and produced additive free tomato products. The old favorites will be joined by a few new tasty additions to the line up; Red Tomato Relish, Garlic Oak Roasted Tomatoes, Fresh Tomato Soup and a Green Tomato Chutney.
