The new year at Farmers' Markets
Wednesday 12 January 2011
We will be making our first appearances’ at Farmers' Markets in London this weekend ( see events for locations ). At the stalls this weekend you will find a small amount Isle of Wight grown Cocktail on the Vine and Loose Cocktail Tomatoes, the old favourite sweet and juicy a little taste of summer to add to you favourite dishes this January...
Theses tomatoes have been grown in our glasshouses on the island, where the environment is maintained by our on-site, Combined Heat and Power plant (CHP). The plant generates electricity and the waste heat and co2 are then used to create the ideal growing conditions for tomatoes. This is a very green process, located on site so there is no need to transport power from the mainland; excess power is then sold back to the national grid. Artificial light is also then used to mimic the extra light hours of a spring day. We believe the carbon footprint of these tomatoes is less than importing tomatoes from abroad as the only transportation of the tomatoes takes place on the short trip from the Island to London direct to the farmers markets.
Also on the stalls this weekend you will find our full range of our own grown and produced additive free tomato products. Our tomato sauce is the perfect companion to add to those winter stews or curries, or why not try our hot chilli sauce for a bit of a kick to liven up any meal. Or for those of you looking for something a bit healthier in January why not try our pure tomato juice the perfect way to start the day it’s extremely tasty, refreshing plus a great source of lycopene.
We hope to see you at a market soon or look out for our products in your local farm shop or deli, alternatively check out our online shop….
